To help you achieve consistently flawless lash lifts, we’ve created this expert guide to choosing the correct lash lift shield shape and size every time.
How To Choose The Right Lash Lift Shield Size
With so many different shield types to choose from, it's no surprise we can get confused or overwhelmed when selecting the right one for our client. When selecting a shield, it’s essential to consider:
-
The client’s eye shape: If your client has hooded eyes or downturned eyes, this will play into your shield choice. Think of the same principles as you would apply with picking the right lash curl for a set of extensions. Try to balance out and compliment your client's natural features.
-
Natural lash length and direction: If your client has super stubborn lashes or curly lashes already, this will impact your shield choice. For example, don't go for a super curled lash shield if the lashed are already curly as this would result in an underwhelming lift.
-
The client’s desired result: does your client want a natural look or the highest amount of drama you can get out of their natural lashes? This will, of course, change the shield choice. If your client wants a natural look, avoid ultra angular shields as this will being more drama than they're looking for.
The good news is that all of our shields are glueless, so there's one less thing to worry about when you're making your shield selection. Your application process will be seamless, mess and stress free!

Debunking Lash Shield Myths
A huge misconception, particularly since Korean lash lifts went viral, is that you should always size up your shield. In reality, this isn’t always the case, and choosing the wrong size can easily affect the final result.
When choosing the correct shield size for your client, it’s best to lay out two to three different sizes to compare. Apply the shield to the eyelid (after Step 1 if you’re performing a Korean lash lift), then use a dry micro brush or applicator to gently push the natural lashes up onto the shield. This allows you to accurately assess how the lashes will sit before committing.
Ideally, the lashes should sit just past the apex of the shield, reaching around 70% of the way up. This positioning ensures a balanced lift without over-processing the lashes.
If the lashes extend beyond this point, there is a higher risk of over-curling, meaning you’ll need to size up. If the lashes sit below this point, the result may be underwhelming or lack lift altogether, indicating that you should size down.
Correct shield sizing is essential for achieving a comfortable, well-balanced lash lift with consistent, professional results every time.
