Hooded eyes are notoriously tricky for lash lifts, but they’re also some of the most satisfying and impactful lash lifts you can do (when done right!)

Hooded eyes (AKA monolid eyes) don’t have a visible crease when the eye is open. This means you have to be more careful when you’re selecting a lash shield for this eye shape as you don’t want the lashes to curl too far back as they’ll come into contact with the eyelid itself, causing discomfort.
For hooded eyes, you want to get as much out of the length of the lashes as possible (even more so than different shapes!) As monolid eyes tend to have downturned lashes, you’ll want to find a shield that’s got enough room to get the lashes to lift outwards rather than backwards in the traditional D shape.

As you’re avoiding curly lash shields on hooded eyes, you’re going to want to go for a more speciality, hybrid shape like an LU Curl or an LC curl. Alternatively, we also recommend Ascent Shields as a great option!

Tips for Applying a Shield to Hooded Eyes
When applying a shield on monolid eyes, you can struggle to get a snug fit as the excess skin on the eyelid can make placing the shield more difficult. A top tip here is to use some sensitive tape (we recommend our silicone tape) to lift the eyelid before placing the shield onto the lashline. This will ensure the shield is as close to the lashline as possible to get as much of the lashed onto the shields as possible.

Considerations when lash lifting on hooded eyes
As with any lash treatment, when lifting the lashes on hooded eyes, you need to conduct an assessment of the lash and eye shape, the condition of the lashes and your client’s wants.
A dramatic lift is not necessarily the right lift for every client, and some clients may have unrealistic expectations of what they want their lashes to look like by the end of the treatment. (If your client has 7mm lashes, a lash lift isn’t going to magically make them 12mm! That’s what extensions are for!)
It’s part of your job as a lash tech to ensure your client understands any limitations there may be for their desired result, and why you’re using the products you are to achieve the best lift possible.
We recommend the Korean lash lift technique in most cases as the cysteamine-based formula of the products on this technique are not as harsh as traditional TGA based systems, limiting the damage to the lashes during a treatment.
