Did you know that your choice of lash lift adhesive can make or break your lash lift result?
Since Korean lash lifts have taken the lash lifting world by storm, you may have noticed lash lift glue balms crop up on your ‘for you’ page more and more. Lash lift glue balms are an alternative to traditional lash lift glue - but we’ll get more into that!
In this blog, we’ll be going into detail on which product you should be using in your lifts: a regular lash lifting adhesive or a lash lift glue balm?
What is a lash lift glue?
Traditional lash lift glue is generally a fast drying, strong adhesive used to fix the natural lashes to a silicone shield during a lift. Many experienced lash technicians have been using this product for years and find it a great option especially for thick stubborn lashes due to its sturdy hold.
What is lash lift glue balm?
Lash lift glue balm is a newer product to the industry and is becoming really popular amongst lash artists due to its flexibility and ease of use. Different to a regular lash lift adhesive, a lash lift glue balm gives you a lot more time to position the lashes perfectly into place, and it doesn’t give that dry flaky cast on the natural lashes.

Lifting the lashes onto the shield: lash lift glue vs. glue balm
The main difference you’re going to experience with using a lash lift glue galm over a lash lift adhesive is when you’re lifting the lashes onto the shield.
With a traditional lash lift glue, it dries quickly and hard, meaning there is little room to adjust and you’ll need to work fast. Lash lift glue isn’t flexible and can often clump the lashes together when you’re fixing them onto the shield.
Lash lift glue balm, on the other hand, doesn’t dry hard, giving you a lot more time to position the lashes perfectly into place, and it doesn’t give that dry flaky cast on the natural lashes. Due to this consistency, you’ll have the chance to go over the lashes multiple times & ensure perfect isolation!

Lash lift glue vs glue balm: differences & benefits summary
While there’s lots of differences between lash lift adhesive vs. lash lift glue balm, it’s pretty simple to break them down once you consider the following: consistency, comfort for the client, lash placement & processing time.
|
Differences |
Lash Lift Adhesive |
Lash Lift Glue Balm |
|
Consistency |
Thinner consistency, making it tricky to secure lashes to the shield. |
Thicker consistency, so even stubborn lashes are more maneuverable. |
|
Drying Time |
Fast drying & dries hard. |
Slower drying & doesn’t dry hard. |
|
Comfort |
Traditional lash lift glue can often clump the lashes together, which can cause discomfort. |
Glue balm offers more comfort due to its soft-drying texture, and is irritation free for the client. |
|
Lash Placement |
Tricky to isolate the lashes into place before the glue “sets”, which means you have to act fast to get the right effect. |
Gives the lash technician more control over lash placement as you have more time to isolate the lashes. |
|
Processing time of lash lift solution |
Due to its thinner consistency, there is little impact on processing time with lash lift glue. |
Using a lash lift glue balm may add a few extra minutes processing time as it can act as a barrier between the lashes & the solution. |
Lash lift glue vs glue balm: Which one should I use?
Both lash lift glue and glue balm have a place in the lash industry, and both can be used to achieve amazing results. If you are a super fast worker and the main importance for you is to have a glue with a strong hold, then a traditional glue will work well for you. If you like to take your time to position each lash perfectly on the shield whilst also using a product that nourishes your clients natural lashes, then I would opt for a glue balm!
