Essential Lash Lift Aftercare: Tips for Long-lasting, Beautiful Lashes

Congrats on your fresh lash lift! But remember, if you love the transformation from wallflower to wide-eyed beauty, lash lift aftercare is everything when it comes to keeping those lashes gorgeous for as long as possible. The better you care for them, the longer they will last.

Many clients may think that lash lift aftercare sounds like a heavy burden, but there’s really not much to it. Sticking to a few easy tips will ensure long-lasting, beautiful lashes, and they’ll love their lash techs even more for sharing them!

Lash Lift Basics

First things first. A lash lift involves “perming” your lashes using a lifting solution and a miniature curling rod to curl your lashes from base to tip. This makes your lashes look longer and fuller.

A lash expert will cleanse your eye area and glue your lashes to a silicone curling rod with lash lift glue. Then, they’ll apply a solution to activate the curl and seal everything into position with a neutralising solution. The final stage is a good rinse with saline solution, and voila—gorgeous lashes!

This may sound tricky, but with BELO Lash Worlds Above Lifting Kit, every lash tech can elevate their clients’ look in the most professional way!

Lash Lift Aftercare 101

If you’re doing lash lifts, don’t forget that your clients may not be well-versed in beauty treatments, so educating them on the upkeep of their newly lifted lashes is a must. And if you’ve just had a lash lift and need a little reminder, these eyelash lift aftercare tips are here to help!

Stay dry: The first day is critical. After a lash lift, your lashes are still settling into their new shape, so how you treat them in the first 24 hours will make all the difference. The golden rule is to keep the lashes dry.

Avoid moisture: Moisture is a no-no on the first day, so avoid water, steam, and sweating. Skip the hot shower or steamy bath. At this stage, moisture can weaken the perming solution, causing your lashes to lose their beautiful lift. Hold off on intense workouts, saunas, or anything that might break a sweat.

Don’t touch! No touching, rubbing, or playing with your luscious lashes! As gorgeous as they look, let them be. Touching them too much can interfere with the setting process, and rubbing could cause the lashes to shift or lose shape.

To Clean or Not to Clean?

A lash lift aftercare routine calls for a gentle approach to cleansing. During the first 48 hours, keep any eye makeup remover or facial cleansers far away from your lashes. If you need to cleanse your face, be super careful not to let any product run onto your lashes.

After the initial two days after the appointment, you can go back to your normal skin care rituals but always use oil-free products. Oil can break down the perming solution faster, resulting in a much shorter lifespan for your lift.

Can You Wear Mascara with a Lash Lift?

The answer is yes – but with a few caveats!

Don’t wear mascara in the first 24-48 hours after your appointment. After that, feel free to use it, but stick to the water-based version. Similarly to cleansers, oil-based mascaras can affect your lift’s longevity.

However, with a good lash lift, you may not even want to wear mascara. The lift gives a beautiful, wide-eyed look that demands no additional products. If you’re craving extra drama, try a lash serum or tint that won’t compromise the lift.

Brush Them Gently

Give your lashes a little love with a spoolie brush to keep them looking their best. When you wake up in the morning, they may be slightly tangled or crisscrossed, so brush them upwards and in the direction of the lift to maintain that dreamy curl.

Stay Out of Direct Sunlight

Lash lift aftercare rules include avoiding direct sunlight in the first 48 hours after your appointment. Heat can undo the effects of the lash lift process by breaking down the adhesive and shortening the life of your newly lifted lashes.

Protecting Your Lashes Overnight

Side or stomach sleepers, adjust your sleeping habits! Squashing your face into a pillow could wreak havoc on a lash lift, causing lashes to bend or lose shape. Sleeping on your back, or at least trying to do so during the first 48 hours after your appointment, can help maintain your lovely new lashes.

A satin or silk pillowcase can also work like magic for protecting lashes. These fabrics reduce friction and help keep lashes intact overnight.

Long-term Care for Lash Lift Longevity

A well-maintained lash lift can last anywhere from six to eight weeks, depending on the natural lash cycle and how well lash lift aftercare tips are followed.

Aside from brushing the lashes and avoiding oil-based products, eyelash lift aftercare should include a bit of TLC with a lash serum or conditioning treatment specifically designed for lashes. This will keep them hydrated, strong, and shiny. Hydrated lashes stay flexible and are less prone to breakage, allowing the lift to last longer.
