How to do a Lash Lift on Short or Stubborn Lashes

How to do a Lash Lift on Short or Stubborn Lashes

Not every client that comes into your salon will have long luscious natural lashes, as a professional lash tech it’s important that you are able to cater to all lash types, especially short or stubborn lashes.

A Korean lash lift is the perfect treatment for a client with short or stubborn lashes, it focuses on lifting the natural lashes straight up from the base and the solution is applied to the whole of the natural lashes, as opposed to a traditional lift that focuses on a curl/lift through the middle of the lashes.

We have personally found that results from a Korean lash lift on clients with these lash types are more impactful than when using the traditional method.

Things to keep in mind when doing a lash lift on stubborn lashes

Lash Lift Solution Processing Times

When working with stubborn lashes, you need to really be mindful of processing times. If a client with stubborn downturned lashes books a lash lift, you need to add more time onto the processing times for step 1 & 2. This may sometimes take up to 20 minutes to fully process stubborn lashes! A common issue for many lash techs is that they prematurely remove the solutions in a panic that the lashes may over process.

Always keep in mind that manufacturer timings are only guidelines and you should use your professional judgement to decide when step one should be removed.

Pro tip: You are looking for the lashes to be fully flexible and showing no resistance when step 1 is fully processed.

You can check this by doing the swoop test (sweeping the lashes to the side using a lash lift brush or microbrush, be sure to not only swoop the tips but the base too!) If you’re finding there isn’t resistance at the tips but a little at the base this is quite normal.

Usually the tips of the lashes will process slightly quicker, at this point don’t be tempted to remove the solution from the whole of the lashes, instead you can carefully remove the solution from the tips only using a micro brush and allow it to continue to work on the base a little longer.

Best Lash Lift Shields for Stubborn Lashes

Selecting the right shield for a lash lift on stubborn downward growing lashes is crucial to get the impact you’re looking for. Pick a shield that focuses on a dramatic root lift rather than a soft curl, like our Rainbow lash lift shields in an LU curl or our Nova ascent shields.

Rainbow Shields

  • LU Curl: designed to lift from the root, only a slight curl.
  • 10 Shield pairs per pack
  • £15.99

Nova Ascent Shields

  • Ascent shield: thicker shield to avoid any curling
  • 3 Shield pairs per pack
  • £12.99

Things to keep in mind when doing a lash lift on short lashes

Best Lash Lift Shields for Short Lashes

When lifting shorter lashes, shield selection is one of the most important choices for achieving the best results. The goal is to choose a shield that lifts the lashes from the root, rather than simply creating a curl.

For shorter lashes prioritising a straight upward lift helps to maximise the appearance of length and creates a more open eyed effect. Shields like our rainbow and galaxy shields are perfect as they are specifically designed to lift the lashes from the base.

Rainbow Shields

  • LU Curl: designed to lift from the root, only a slight curl.

  • 10 Shield pairs per pack

Galaxy Shields

  • LC Curl: designed to lift from the root, C curl tip.

  • 10 Shield pairs per pack

Isolating shorter lashes during a lash lift

When lifting shorter lashes up onto the shield you also need to be really mindful that each lash is carefully combed through and isolated, as bunching at the base of the lashes can really affect the finished result when you’re working with shorter lash lengths. We recommend using our Y combs for this as they offer the level of precision that is needed.

Our Worlds above glue balm also works perfectly for isolating shorter lashes as its super flexible formula allows the extra time you’ll need to alter the lashes as needed when preparing to apply Step 2 of your lash lift.
